Evangelical in commitment:
- We have a passion to live the good news of Jesus Christ’s saving significance and to share it through teaching, preaching, and faithful example, in word and deed.
- We rejoice that we are justified by God’s grace through faith given by God, not by the works of correct belief or required acts of piety.
- We encourage every person to develop a personal relationship with Christ which is expressed in daily acts of compassion, personal devotion, caring for creation, participating in the community of faith and seeking justice for all people.
Liberal in perspective::
- We celebrate the gifts of combining heart and head, faith and reason. We affirm the truths of our Biblical faith and honor the discoveries of science and scholarship. We welcome expressions of the faith which speak to the contemporary mind, and we seek applications of the faith which are relevant in today’s world.
- We seek to represent the “Methodist Middle” between the extremes of the right (fundamentalism and dogmatic certainty) and the extremes of the left (secular humanism and moral relativism).
- We share a vision of the church which honors questions, encourages dialogue, guides seekers, respects differences, and welcomes all God’s children. We value genuine conversation between diverse Christian perspectives and with people from other faith traditions.
